As a major development hub in Mauritius, Grand Baie has attracted all of the modern facilities and commerce. Acquisition is rare, and privacy is priceless, so this project provided a unique opportunity to develop something special. Positioned at the end of a cul de sac off the main road, the plot lies on the waters edge and embodies a rare sense of isolation and privacy. The view is about as good as it gets on the island, making the key focus in the design a simple one. A dramatic ocean facing axis from the kitchen, through the living room, and onto the terrace is emphasised by the colossal openings, creating a wide expanse which breaks the conventional boundaries of apartment space. Just meters away from the oceans edge, the vast 22m square shared pool is another standout feature of the development. By adjusting the industry norms, the extended pool and decking area maximise the outdoor experience and the response from owners has been overwhelmingly positive.

This project was a challenge for me since it involved a style that was discovered in the 16th century. At that period each country had their own approach towards this style. It was primordial for a thorough research to be conducted on the subject. Despite the fact that several centuries have passed, the idea of colonial style remains the same – a reasonable combination of rich luxury, comfort and exoticism. The floor is darker than the walls and ceiling, but also monophonic. This surface design serves as an ideal backdrop for accentuating on the carved wooden furniture, soft poufs, sofas and bed, artworks, Large patterned rugs and a beautiful landscape opening on the huge terrace to complement the decor. Decorative deco cushions were carefully chosen for the sofa and bed each space having its own concept and colour.
