“Research is seeing what everybody else has seen and thinking what nobody else has thought.”
- Albert Szent-Györgyi
Sustainable design is an art of designing and redesigning objects/services. It repairs our environment which is indistinguishable in performance and price. Given the rise to its functions, makes us comfortable, healthy and productive. Building our planet towards a diversified sustainable condition, long term value can be settled to avoid future burden. Encouraging these building standards as designers will give users support to act responsibly.
Strategic questions towards an elaborated ecological environment is as follows:
(1) Behaviours
Are the objectives of the project sufficient to keep our surroundings safe?
(2) Creation What will the end product/service be? Are the materials really sustainable or potentially harmful for users? What consequences can we foresee? To what extent can we minimise the consumption of energy?
(3) Durability What is the expected life span of the product/service? Can it be extended? Can we reuse, recycle or reproduce it?
(4) Supply Chain Can the materials be supplied easily? Are the products best imported or locally constructed? To what extent do suppliers provide an insightful quality based service/product?
(5) Waste How can waste be eliminated?
(6) Impacts
What are the consequences for our actions? Is the project reliable in terms of sustainability?
(7) Conflicts What conflicts can occur in future?
(8) Transparency and Truth Can we communicate transparently about every aspect of the project?
