Sensory Fantasy

Updated: Feb 5, 2021

"Our bodies have five senses: touch, smell, taste, sight, hearing. But not to be overlooked are the senses of our souls: intuition, peace, foresight, trust, empathy. The differences between people lie in their use of these senses; most people don't know anything about the inner senses while a few people rely on them just as they rely on their physical senses, and in fact probably even more" - C. JoyBell C

The construction of our fantasy is built around our response to objects and spaces. Sensory design serves the purpose to inspire and engage users with positive stimulation. The depth of involvement in the subject touches a vein of values in the design industry. A phenomenally insightful and intellectually intimate conversation between our senses and our built environment.

We are often guided by our sense of touch and sight and we tend to neglect the three other senses when it comes to design. Raising one of those other senses can make a brilliant impact on the user’s perception. What does sensory design mean for designers? It is the impact a space is interpreted which raises multiple factors that can be explored and potentially adapted to the user’s requirements.

Considering each of these senses individually, interior designers can influence the behaviour (our mood and well being) within an environment. This strategy is an important parameter for an entire design and construction process diversifying the key elements of a functional and aesthetic environment. Maybe if we applied this theory, we could build richer prospects in the creative industry.
